 KARACHI: YouTuber Rajab Butt was physically assaulted at a sessions court in Karachi on Monday during the hearing of a case registered against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Butt appeared before the sessions court (Central) upon the expiry of his interim bail, which was granted to him on December 20. The hearing, however, was marred by violence and chaos as Butt was attacked. Butt‘s counsel, Mian Ali Ashfaq, alleged in a post on social media platform X that his client had been attacked by “some lawyers” at Karachi City Courts’ premises during the hearing of a case.

 China opposes any attempt to split territories in Somalia, the foreign ministry said on Monday, affirming Chinese support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the East African country. "No country should encourage or support other countries' internal separatist forces for its own selfish interests," ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told reporters at a regular press conference, urging authorities in Somaliland to stop "separatist activities and collusion with external forces". Israel became the first country on Friday to formally recognise the self-declared Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state, seeking immediate cooperation with Somaliland in agriculture, health, technology and the economy.

 Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky said progress had been made to end the Ukraine war during Florida talks but the US leader added "one or two very thorny issues" remained. While both the US and Ukrainian presidents described the talks as "great", Trump reiterated that a key sticking point was the question of territory. Russia has previously demanded that Ukraine hand over more land. Addressing reporters at Mar-a-Lago, Zelensky said they had come to an agreement on "90%" of a 20-point peace plan, while Trump said a security guarantee for Ukraine was "close to 95%" done. Zelensky later said US and Ukrainian teams would meet next week for further talks on issues aimed at ending Russia's nearly four-year war in Ukraine.

The ongoing clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, in terms of both intensity and scope, represent the most significant confrontation between the Taliban government and Pakistan to date. In terms of intensity, Pakistan has conducted what it describes as a “hybrid operation” against the group known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), consisting of a wide range of aerial and ground attacks extending into Afghan territory. It has been claimed that in a Pakistani airstrike on Kabul, Noor Wali Mehsud, the leader of the TTP, and several others were killed. In response, the Afghan Taliban have carried out extensive operations against Pakistani border outposts in at least seven provinces bordering Pakistan. Although the reported number of casualties varies, it is certain that dozens of people on both sides have been killed in these clashes.
